the plot thickens...

The king of Bahrain has declared a three-month state of emergency, state TV reports, following weeks of pro-democracy protests in the kingdom. ---BBC

So what does this mean for us? Well, I haven't been to school in two days. Most schools are officially closed. My school has not made that decision, but since no one is showing up, we might as well be closed.

We are all staying at home as most roads are blocked and most destinations aren't even open. We managed to get out to a grocery store yesterday morning to stock up on food, but other than that, we're just home. Rey went to work for a few hours this morning, but there wasn't any work to do, so they all went home.

People are becoming very paranoid by the hundreds of rumors that are flying around. The truth is that no one really knows what's happening. As Rey was coming back from church on Sunday night, he said the streets were deserted of cars but crowds of boys were roaming around with sticks. We've heard other reports of "gangs" roaming the street beating people up. Last night we went out for bread, and it was like a ghost town. Rey made me wait in the cold store while he got bread from the fresh bread guy because it just felt unsafe to be outside. There is a very creepy feeling lingering, like the air itself is charged and just waiting in anticipation for something to start. It's unsettling to say the least. For now we are just waiting. I feel secure in knowing that God is in control, and we are all praying for peace.
